A Study on the Process of the Newborn's Recovering Normal Temperture Just After Arriving at the Nursery

Abstract
Newborns are protected in the uterus of which the temperature is higher than that of mother. Being born face the external circumstances with their body wet with the amniotic fluid.
The low temperature of the outside of the uterus and the situation of being wet with the amniotic fluid make their temperature drop suddenly, and so they bring about the danger of hypothermia. Newborns are subject to temperature-loss more easily
than
temperature-production due to their various physical characteristics, and their recovery from the hypothermia is difficult.
Therefore, the newborn-charger should prevent this hypothermia. As one of the preventive methods, the Infant Radient Warmer was used to prevent the hypothermia, and the time for recovering normal temperature of the newborn for which the warmer
wasn't
used. As the result, the need of warming just after the birth was found. Now the present researcher tried to study to keep the newborns' normal temperature. The design of study is the Non-Equivalent Control Group Posttest Design, the similar
experimental research. The subject of study is the experimental group(40) and the control group(40), which were selected in the nursery of C university general hospital in Taejon, from April, 1991 until 1992 September.
For the experimental group, the Infant Radient Warmer was used: for the control group, it was not used. And then, their temperature was measured and compared. In addition, the relation between the newborns' temperature just after arriving the
nursery
and each characteristics and the relation between the time for reaching normal temperature and each characteristics were examined.
@ES the results are as follows:
@EN 1) The no-warmer-use group after arriving at the nursery showed the utmost temperature drop within one hour from arrival, and the lowest temperature was measured after three hours from arrival. The time for recovering normal temperature was
7.45
hours on the average. The warmer-use group kept normal temperature. The control group's average temperature difference after three hours from arrival was 1.5¡¾0.59; the experimantal group's 0.4¡¾0.42(P-Value=0.00).
2) The temperature just after arriving at the nursery was high in order of 3401-4000g group, 2701-3400g group, and above 4000g group by weight (P-Value=0.02). In relation with sex(P-Value=0.03). the male infants showed 37.6¡¾0.48¡É, higher than
the
female ones by 0.2¡É.
3) In case of the no-warmer-use newborn, the lower their temperature just after arriving at the nursery was, the longer the time for recovering normal temperature was taken(P-Value=0.02). In comparison with the weight, the lighter their weight
was, the
longer the time for recovering normal temperature was taken (P-Value=0.07).
